General Information
QUICK FIND MENUTHE MARYGATE HOUSE HOLY ISLAND TRUST consists of two buildings both located within the village: Marygate House and Cambridge House.
It is the home of a small community who run it under a board of Trustees as an independent Charitable trust. It is not affiliated to, or sponsored or subsidised by any church or other body.
MARYGATE HOUSE itself can accommodate groups of up to 22
people for religious, educational or cultural purposes. Individuals or small
groups are welcomed at CAMBRIDGE HOUSE for private retreats,
study time or a few days peace and quiet.
Neither house is normally available for just holidays, for which there is plenty of other accommodation on the Island.
There is a Crypt at Marygate House and guests are invited to join the community for daily offices there, and to use it for private prayer or as a place of quiet at any time.
Marygate House is also home to an extensive Library consisting of up-to-date Theological texts. Guests are welcome to use this at anytime during their stay.
Charges: The Trust makes no set charge for staying at Cambridge or Marygate House yet guests are kindly asked to contribute what they can and will. We know that some guests would welcome a suggestion, and we calculate that we need an income averaging £29 per guest per day. But this is a suggestion only: We should be very distressed if any friends felt they could not come for this reason.
Marygate House no longer allows smoking within the buildings.

We
hope that you will find this a place of prayer and hospitality. Please
ask any member of the team if you have any questions or wish to make
an appointment to meet with them to talk over what you discover during
your stay. |
The island is also the home of around 150 people, who make their living mostly from tourism, fishing or farming. To ensure that their life can go on undisturbed please respect the village by keeping noise to a minimum and by parking your vehicles either in front of Marygate House or at the rear of Cambridge House. Please avoid parking in front of nearby cottages.
The Village has a website which can be found here.
* IMPORTANT *
| Life on the Island is dominated by the tides. It is safe to cross the causeway for a period of about 6 hours, twice in every twenty four hours. This safe crossing time varies from day to day, and official tide tables are published. These are rightly very cautious but it is better for guests to respect them. Information about the tides may be obtained from us, County Hall (Morpeth), the Coastguard or from the tourist office. |
Churches on the Island
The Anglican Church (St Mary's) has a variety of services daily. These can be seen on our daily timetable.
The Roman Catholic Centre usually has a Mass at sometime during each summer weekend. Times are posted on the door.
The United Reformed Church has a family service at 8.00pm each Saturday.
